EUSA 2008
Posted: 1st October 2008

Following a shaky Henley Royal Regatta with substitutions dogging the quad, Nottingham University's crew arrived in Croatia from three different countries. With the crew having not rowed together for 7 weeks hopes were not high going into the first round. However, after a reasonable start Nottingham went away with the pack and settled onto a powerful but ' Physical Rhythm' and moved out into 3rd position, leaving the BUSA champions Newcastle in their wash.

This surprise performance gave some hope of a medal for the quad who grabbed every opportunity to get onto lake Jarun to practice and get together.

Before the final the crew were understandably nervous but had a medal in their sights. The crew emulated the first round; moving off in the pack but this time the power rythm was boosted by regular pushes. Once again the top three crews surged ahead through the 1000m mark. Nottingham started to move on the second place Hamburg Crew but a collision with the lane buoys meant that the push was unsuccessful, leaving Nottingham in the bronze medal position over the line.

Well done to the crew of Chris Thomas, Anthony Browne, Sam Cottrell and Olivier Grauwin.

Henley BBQ
Posted: 1st October 2008

With the British weather up to its usual tricks, a torrential downpour early on the Saturday morning threatened to put a real dampener not only on those rolling out of their overnight camping spots, but also on the racing and festivites planned for later in the day. Thankfully though the Pimms Gods were watching over us and the annual Henley BBQ took place in glorious sunshine on Saturday 5th July. Despite a certain ex-NUBC member holding his engagement party on Temple Island (congratulations to Chris Flood), the BBQ was well attended and the combination of great beverages, good food, and poor old-school chat went down well. Thank you to everyone who attended and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
